Restorative Justice & Trauma-Informed Care
In medicine we use universal precautions to protect ourselves and others from infectious diseases. The importance of this has been clearly shown during our coronavirus pandemic. The same concept applies to trauma care: There are certain ways of dealing with all people that are more kind and compassionate and loving and less likely to trigger someone. Universal trauma precautions hold people with the highest respect and care, considering what they may have experienced in their lives.
As part of my work in restorative practices and restorative justice I look at how we can become trauma informed in our lives for ourself as well as others. This is particularly important in our schools and educational institutions, but also in business. As a physician I understand the far-reaching effects of trauma on people’s lives and want to educate people and organizations to use universal precautions in our relationships with others.
In our organization and nonprofit for nonviolent communication, we teach trauma informed care to individuals and organizations. Our classes are available as in-person or online classes, as well as online trainings and videos.
